Performance (16mm)
The Perseus Mod TA-15 16mm delivers impressive power, thanks to its Charged Carbon Fiber face and responsive polypropylene honeycomb core. Drives, volleys, and overheads are met with a satisfying pop, instilling confidence to attack the ball. The Propulsion Core further enhances power by optimizing energy transfer upon impact, resulting in a noticeable boost in ball speed.
Control remains a strong suit despite the power. The paddle's maneuverability and sweet spot optimization ensure precise shot placement. Dinking, resetting, and quick reactions at the net are all executed with ease. The Propulsion Core also contributes to control by reducing vibration and providing a more stable feel.
Spin generation is where the Mod TA-15 truly shines. The textured Charged Carbon Fiber face grips the ball exceptionally well, allowing for devastating topspin and backspin serves. Even finesse shots like slices and drop shots gain an extra layer of deception with enhanced spin.
Propulsion Core Technology
The Perseus Mod TA-15 features JOOLA's innovative Propulsion Core technology, which is designed to enhance both power and control. This specialized core construction optimizes energy transfer upon ball impact, resulting in increased ball speed and power. Additionally, the Propulsion Core helps to reduce vibration, providing a more stable and comfortable hitting experience.
Feel and Comfort
The Perseus Mod TA-15 feels solid yet surprisingly comfortable. The 8.0-ounce weight provides stability and power without feeling cumbersome. The 4.25-inch grip circumference and Feel-Tec Pure Grip offer a comfortable and secure hold for various hand sizes.
Spin
The Mod TA-15's spin generation is remarkable, potentially even more consistent than the Gen 3 Perseus. The Charged Carbon Fiber face now maintains the same quality and texture on both sides, ensuring predictable spin on every hit. This eliminates the occasional inconsistency experienced with the Gen 3, where one side could be grittier than the other, impacting spin performance.
While the Mod TA-15 offers improved consistency, the average spin rate remains comparable to the Gen 3, at approximately 2300 RPMs. This still translates to exceptional topspin and backspin serves, along with enhanced spin on finesse shots, adding a layer of deception to your game.
How is it Different from the Gen 3?
The Mod TA-15 and the Ben Johns Perseus Gen 3 share the same material design, including the Charged Carbon Fiber face, polypropylene honeycomb core, and Propulsion Core technology. The key differences lie in aesthetics and power level. The Mod TA-15 comes in a distinct color scheme to differentiate it from the Gen 3, and though it appears to still play nearly exactly the same as Gen 3 while still USAPA regulations.
Overall Impression (16mm)
The JOOLA Perseus Mod TA-15 Pro Player Edition 16mm is a top-performing paddle that strikes a balance between power, control, and spin, further enhanced by its innovative Propulsion Core technology. It caters to intermediate to advanced players who demand a versatile paddle that can handle aggressive play while maintaining touch and finesse.
14mm Version: A Quick Comparison
The 14mm version offers similar attributes to the 16mm, with more power at the net but enhanced feel. What we mean by this is not that the 14mm has more control, but that players will feel the ball more as it makes contact with the 14mm core. It is ideal for players who prioritize feel and finesse over raw power. The 14mm version will also have slightly more pop and less driving power than the 16mm.
Who Should Buy It?
The Perseus Mod TA-15 is perfect for players seeking a USAPA-approved paddle with power, spin, and control, enhanced by cutting-edge technology. If you want a paddle that can deliver a competitive edge without sacrificing feel, the Mod TA-15 is worth considering. If you were a previous user of the Gen 3 paddles and miss those, the Mod TA-15 is a great alternative.
Conclusion
The JOOLA Perseus Mod TA-15 Pro Player Edition is a high-performing paddle that successfully combines cutting-edge technology, including the innovative Propulsion Core, with USAPA compliance. Its versatility, power, control, and feel make it a valuable asset for any competitive pickleball player.

I believe the 14mm review and the conclusions in this article are backwards. The 14mm definitely has more pop and speed off the face, whereas the 16mm affords more control.
